Beautiful Contradiction

Jill Stuart

Kicking off my New York Fashion Week coverage is one of my long time favorites. Jill Stuart always seems to keep me interested with her predominantly feminine aesthetic, because she always mixes things up. This time, for Spring 2014 she presented a beautifully contradictory collection. She kept her signature feminine, flirty silhouettes with ruffles and lace, but injected a rock and roll element. Edgy leather and rocker details elevated her pieces and differentiated them from previous collections. There was a very grungy vibe to the styling as well. The perfectly unkempt hair and makeup complemented the clothing and pulled the whole look together. Stuart succeeded in her goals of creating an on trend but innovative and stylish collection, and personally I loved it. But what do you think?

Pretty Woman

The end of New York Fashion Week leaves us fashion girls waiting patiently for next season and also obsessing over what the designers showed us in those big white tents at Bryant Park less than a week ago. Having waited for so long, I was definitely happily surprised. Especially with Jill Stuart’s show. I loved this season’s show of graphic, geometric prints, but also its softer pieces. The combination of feminine flowers, bold colors, and perfectly placed cut outs made for some beautiful, and very diverse dresses. The show had an overall very youthful vibe, and it left me even more in love with the designer. And lets not forget to mention that the styling was perfect…

Jill Stuart- girly, feminine, and flirty

The spring collection of Jill Stuart definitely had something for the girly girl in all of us. The show was sweet and pretty. Pastel colors were used along with the flowing and sheer garments, which added to the girly theme of the collection. It was cute and definitely on trend. I personally loved it. The collection was very diverse, with a little something for everyone, such as, more conservative pants, skirts, and dresses, then at the opposite end of the spectrum, super short skirts. The styling was perfect, with simple eyeliner and bare lips for makeup. And perfect, beautiful, and beachy waves with a side swept bang. The styling reflected the simple and relaxed essence of the show very well. The show was the epitome of girly girl, but was made in a way that could appeal to anyone.
